Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 13, Nordic construction firm NCC has finalized five asphalt contracts with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, valued together at around Skr250m ($24.8m). The agreements, set to last one year, involve producing 122,000 tons of asphalt, maintaining steady activity at NCC’s asphalt facilities. Beyond laying asphalt, the contracts include milling and preparatory work.

Work completion is set for later in the year.

NCC is focused on lowering carbon dioxide emissions in its asphalt operations. To achieve this, the company employs sustainable practices like using wood pellets for energy and biogenic binding agents. It also integrates reclaimed asphalt pavement into its production process. In line with Norway’s environmental goals, all contracts signed this year feature a 30% environmental weighting in their evaluation and require environmental product declarations.

The contracts cover multiple regions in Norway: SVV Hordaland, SVV Telemark, SVV Agder, SVV Stor-Oslo, and SVV Sør-Rogaland. Work is scheduled to start in early 2025 and finish by the end of that year. These projects will be recorded under NCC’s Industry business area in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025.

Grete Aspelund, head of NCC Industry, commented: “In recent years, we have invested in upgrades and the acquisition of new equipment at several of our asphalt plants across the group and these activities will continue moving forward.” She added: “We are a key operator in the Nordic market and our aim is to offer the best asphalt solutions in the years ahead.” These efforts underscore NCC’s commitment to maintaining its strong position in the region while enhancing its offerings.

In addition to the asphalt contracts, NCC secured a deal last month to build a new swimming center in Karlskoga, Sweden, with completion targeted for Q1 2028. The company also recently signed an agreement to upgrade the Villingsberg training ground and firing range for the Swedish Fortifications Agency. These projects highlight NCC’s diverse portfolio and ongoing expansion in the Nordic construction sector.

The asphalt contracts with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration mark a significant step for NCC in 2025. By combining consistent production with eco-friendly innovations, the company aims to meet both regional demands and environmental standards effectively. The work across the five Norwegian regions will contribute to infrastructure development while aligning with sustainable practices.
