en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 9, Panasonic Energy of Japan announced that it has developed an all-solid-state battery capable of operating at temperatures up to 150°C and plans to begin sample shipments between October and December 2026. This development also adds a small prismatic cell design, with the product initially targeting high-temperature application scenarios such as industrial machinery and automotive sensors.

Panasonic Energy's previously developed all-solid-state battery had a maximum operating temperature of 125°C, and the new product raises the upper temperature limit to 150°C. The company has also added a prismatic structure to its existing coin-type cells to accommodate different device internal spaces and mounting methods. Panasonic Energy's previously announced technology roadmap shows that the commercialization of all-solid-state batteries will prioritize industrial equipment, which has high requirements for heat resistance, miniaturization, and reliability.

Panasonic Energy has identified automotive sensors, industrial equipment, and terminal devices that need to operate in high-temperature environments as key application directions. What the company is currently pursuing is not an all-solid-state battery for electric vehicle main power, but rather small battery products for industrial use, with its commercialization path being advanced separately from its existing automotive cylindrical lithium-ion battery business.

Panasonic Energy's all-solid-state battery development plan announced in May shows that the company plans to make as much use as possible of existing production equipment to advance manufacturing verification, in order to reduce the difficulty of equipment modification and production switching when introducing new products. This 150°C product will advance sample verification along the industrial small battery route.

According to the schedule announced in September, the first batch of samples will begin delivery in the fourth quarter of 2026. Panasonic Energy Chief Technology Officer Shoichiro Watanabe stated that the company aims to achieve mass production one to two years after sample shipments.
