en.Wedoany.com Reported - In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Lovo Bridge project, funded by SICOMINES S.A., recently completed the pouring of its first bored pile, marking the official start of the main foundation construction of the bridge. The bridge, a permanent reinforced concrete structure, is located on a key section of National Highway N1 between Mbuji-Mayi and Nguba. It is the 58th infrastructure project under the China-DRC "package" cooperation agreement, aimed at improving local transportation infrastructure.
National Highway N1, where the Lovo Bridge is located, is a major transportation artery running through southeastern DRC. Its upgrade is a key component of the China-DRC "package" cooperation. SICOMINES S.A., the implementing entity of the China-DRC "package" cooperation agreement, is responsible for investing in and constructing multiple infrastructure projects, including roads and bridges, while developing local mineral resources. The bridge is designed to high standards, emphasizing load-bearing capacity and service life. The completion of the first bored pile has laid the foundation for subsequent main bridge construction.
Since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative between the DRC and China in 2021, infrastructure projects under the China-DRC "package" cooperation framework have been steadily advancing. To date, 48 key infrastructure projects have been completed, with over 1,000 kilometers of roads newly built or rehabilitated. An additional approximately 1,400 kilometers of road projects are under construction, covering more than ten provinces in the DRC. These projects include the ring road in the capital Kinshasa, the East Kasai economic corridor connecting the border, and the upgrade of backbone road networks such as National Highway N1.
The Lovo Bridge and the upgrade of National Highway N1 directly serve the transportation needs of the Mbuji-Mayi to Nguba area, expected to improve local logistics efficiency and promote regional economic connectivity. As an important part of China-DRC cooperation, these infrastructure projects focus on expanding and upgrading the transportation network, objectively providing more convenient conditions for residents' travel and cargo transport along the route. As the project funder, SICOMINES S.A. advances its infrastructure investment in parallel with its resource development operations, reflecting the model of linking infrastructure construction with regional economic development under the "package" cooperation. Currently, the project is still in its early construction phase, and subsequent progress will depend on the alignment of engineering plans with local conditions.
