en.Wedoany.com Reported - The first section of the new Marshall Creek Bridge on the Stuart Highway is about to open to traffic, marking the halfway point of the $30 million upgrade project.
The existing two-lane, two-way crossing is being upgraded to a four-lane bridge to improve safety and ease congestion. Expected to be completed by mid-2027, the new bridge will extend the four-lane Stuart Highway corridor through Wagga Wagga to approximately 4.5 kilometres.
The new bridge will eliminate a long-standing bottleneck, improving traffic flow, safety, and reliability on one of the Riverina region's key transport arteries.
Over the past year, crews have built the section that will become the bridge's new eastbound carriageway, including two 3.5-metre-wide traffic lanes. Work involved installing 8 foundation piles, laying 30 concrete bridge deck panels, using 35 tonnes of reinforcing steel, and pouring approximately 45 truckloads of concrete.
The new section is now ready for traffic, and vehicles will be temporarily diverted onto it while the existing bridge is demolished and rebuilt. Transport for NSW is reminding motorists to drive to conditions, follow the directions of traffic controllers, and allow up to five minutes of additional travel time during construction.
