en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Port Authority of Cadiz, Spain, recently announced plans to open a dedicated truck parking lot in the Fernández Ladreda dock area within the port. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the port's container yard areas and improve road safety, with reservations expected to open for transport companies in the coming weeks.

The project stems from a major initiative planned by port operators in this dock area—the "Blue Economy Gateway," which aims to transform the dock into a hub for logistics, innovation, and renewable energy. The new parking lot is supporting infrastructure to accommodate future business growth. The lot will offer 120 parking spaces and provide three payment models—per use, monthly, or long-term—based on the needs of freight companies. Its core purpose is to reduce the number of large vehicles illegally parked inside the port and on surrounding roads while waiting to enter the container area, thereby enhancing overall logistics efficiency and traffic safety.

The Port of Cadiz is a key maritime hub in Spain's Andalusia region, handling various cargo types including containers, roll-on/roll-off, and bulk goods. As trade volumes grow, traffic pressure within the port, particularly truck congestion on routes connecting the port area to the external highway network, has become increasingly prominent. The port and local municipal authorities have coordinated on this issue multiple times. The newly opened dedicated parking lot is seen as a concrete measure to alleviate current traffic bottlenecks.

According to a report by Spain's Supply Chain magazine (Cadena de Suministro), citing port sources, the parking lot is expected to regulate vehicle parking order within the port area, providing transport operators with a compliant waiting area. This is part of the port's internal operational optimization efforts, and its actual effectiveness will depend on the utilization rate by transport companies and the subsequent progress of the "Blue Economy Gateway" major project.
