en.Wedoany.com Reported - India's state-owned Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has successfully acquired Kakinada I Transmission Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established for a specific project to advance green energy infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.

The acquisition was completed through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process from PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation, with a total transaction value of approximately INR 205 million. This project is regarded as a key step in India's transition towards sustainable energy storage and transportation.

The SPV was specifically established to implement the "Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen/Green Ammonia Project in Kakinada Area (Phase I)." As India accelerates its clean energy goals, the Kakinada region is emerging as a vital hub for green hydrogen production, requiring highly specialized and robust grid infrastructure to meet the specific load demands of zero-emission fuel plants.

The scope of Phase I engineering is extensive, including the construction of a 765/400 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS). In coastal areas like Kakinada, GIS technology offers a smaller footprint and higher reliability compared to traditional air-insulated substations.

The project also integrates a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM). This advanced power electronics device will provide critical voltage support and dynamic grid stability, ensuring smooth power flow even with the intermittency of renewable energy inputs. The related infrastructure construction will be completed through 765 kV transmission line projects spanning across Andhra Pradesh.
