en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link project has completed the sinking operation of the second tunnel element, which required precise connection to the first element already installed at the tunnel entrance in May. With both elements now in place, over 500 meters of the 18-kilometer-long tunnel have been constructed.

Deputy Project Director Lasse Vester stated that sinking the second tunnel element remains a complex operation requiring full concentration, but as the contractor gains experience with the processes and equipment, the pace of subsequent work is expected to accelerate. In the coming days, the sides of the element will be covered with stones and gravel to secure it in the trench. Preparations will then begin for the installation of the next element.

The Fehmarn Belt Tunnel consists of a total of 89 concrete elements, which are being assembled at the largest construction site in Northern Europe in Rødbyhavn on the island of Lolland. Each element is the size of a cargo ship, and Sund & Bælt has decided to name each one. Since the fixed link plays a central role in the Scandinavian-Mediterranean transport corridor connecting Scandinavia with Central and Southern Europe, each element will be named after towns, cities, and regions along the north-south corridors of the European transport network. The element sunk this time is named after the Swedish city of Lund.
