en.Wedoany.com Reported - The First International Symposium on Oil Palm Nutrition and Health (I Simposio Internacional en Nutrición y Sanidad de Palma de Aceite) will be held from August 21 to 23, 2026, in the San Martín region of Peru. Organized by SANIPALMA PERÚ, the event will bring together palm industry experts, researchers, producers, companies, and professionals to discuss sustainable development pathways for the country's oil palm industry.

The event will take place at the JARPAL facility, located at kilometer 76.8 of the Lamas–Yurimaguas highway (Pongo de Caynarachi). Core topics include efficient nutrition, plant health, and the sustainability and competitiveness of oil palm. Over the three-day conference, experts from Peru and abroad will share the latest scientific advances, successful experiences, and technological innovations aimed at improving productivity and addressing the crop's main phytosanitary challenges.
The opening ceremony will feature officials from the agricultural sector and representatives of palm organizations, including Engineer Ismael Tantarico Contreras, President of JARPAL; Floricelda Ortiz Ríos, General Manager of the Kampu Group and President of CIIPAP; Julio Velayos, CEO of Manantial Ludaok Panamá S.A. and Executive Director of CIIPAP; and Engineer Josué Carrasco Valiente, Director General of Agricultural Inputs and Food Safety at SENASA, who will officially declare the symposium open. On the agenda, Engineer James Freddy Tuanama Valera (M.Sc.), General Manager of JARPAL, will deliver a keynote speech on the prospects of oil palm cultivation in Peru. Additionally, the Ministry of Production (Ministerio de la Producción) will present a report on the sustainability of the industrial chain, and the conference will also address agro-industrial topics such as harvest quality and oil extraction efficiency.
In the nutrition session, expert Ivonne Janneth Cadena Rayo (M.Sc.) will present strategies to increase plantation yield and production through nutritional management. The symposium will feature a commercial exhibition where exhibitors offer technology, inputs, and services to the palm industry. The first day will conclude with a welcome cocktail. The second day's agenda focuses on plant health, including a report on the integrated management of the palm weevil (Rhynchophorus palmarum), as well as a report on the prevention and control of bud rot (Pudrición del Cogollo, PC). Participants will then join a field technical tour to observe health monitoring practices, trapping systems, and assessments of plantation phytosanitary status. The final day's theme is sustainability, featuring a report on RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) standards for environmentally responsible production, an expert panel discussion, as well as the First Peruvian Palm Women's Competition (Primer Concurso de la Mujer Palmera Peruana) and the First Palm Photography Competition (Primer Concurso de Fotografía Palmera). The event will conclude with a closing ceremony, awards, and a farewell lunch.
Organizers stated that this symposium will become a long-term exchange platform for Peru's palm cultivation industry, providing space for training, knowledge sharing, and industrial chain integration, helping agriculture become more competitive, innovative, and sustainable.
