en.Wedoany.com Reported - Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company (referred to as "YOFC") initiated research and development on ultra-low loss, large effective area optical fibre in 2010, deeply participating in and promoting the formulation of the ITU-T G.654.E fibre standard. This standard was revised and officially released at the ITU-T SG15 plenary meeting in September 2016, establishing technical specifications for new optical fibres designed for terrestrial high-speed transmission systems.

G.654.E fibre combines an ultra-low attenuation coefficient with a large effective area, with its standardization driven by the new transmission capacity requirements of 400G technology. In July 2013, ITU-T began discussing G.654 fibre standards applicable to terrestrial transmission systems, aiming to increase the effective area of the fibre and reduce the attenuation coefficient to enhance 400G transmission performance. As one of the earliest manufacturers to submit technical contributions, YOFC continuously participated in ITU-T Study Group 15 meetings from 2013 to 2016, collaborating with the industry to push for the official release of the standard in 2016, laying a solid foundation for subsequent large-scale industrial application.

YOFC's technological deployment in this field predates the standard's release. In 2015, the company unveiled the "YuanBei® Ultra-Strong Ultra-Low Loss Large Effective Area Fibre" at the OFC conference in the United States, becoming the first domestic and the third global manufacturer to possess this product. That same year, YOFC's ultra-low attenuation G.654 fibre was applied in China Unicom's new fibre terrestrial application project, marking the world's first terrestrial ultra-low attenuation G.654 fibre optic cable line.

The core parameters of YOFC's G.654.E fibre meet and exceed the requirements of relevant ITU-T and IEC standards. In 2017, the company was awarded the second prize of the 2017 National Science and Technology Progress Award for its "New Fibre Preparation Technology and Industrialization" project, with G.654.E fibre as a flagship product. Currently, YOFC has achieved comprehensive independent control over fibre preparation equipment, production processes, key raw materials, and related intellectual property, leading globally in technological level and large-scale manufacturing capabilities.

In terms of technical verification, YOFC, in collaboration with operators and the industry chain, has continuously explored the performance limits of G.654.E fibre, progressively achieving transmission distances of 1000 km, 2000 km, and 3000 km for 800G systems, and completing multi-band T-bit ultra-large capacity transmission experiments.

In engineering applications, YOFC's G.654.E fibre has been deployed in network infrastructure projects for China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, State Grid, as well as in multiple countries including the Philippines and Brazil, achieving the world's largest market share with a cumulative deployment scale exceeding 8 million fibre-kilometers. Additionally, this fibre has been applied in cutting-edge fields such as sensing monitoring and quantum communication.

Currently, driven by the "East Data West Computing" project and AI computing power demands, the application scenarios of G.654.E fibre have expanded from backbone networks to metropolitan area network core interconnection, ultra-high voltage transmission, and other areas. In April 2026, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee included the computing power network in the "Six Networks" national strategic infrastructure. In June of the same year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Implementation Opinions on the Innovative Development of 'Artificial Intelligence + Information and Communication' (2026-2028)", explicitly promoting the construction of 400Gbps/800Gbps backbone transmission networks and the application of metropolitan area 400Gbps and above high-speed optical transmission systems, building metropolitan millisecond-level low-latency computing access capabilities.

While continuing to promote the deployment of G.654.E fibre, YOFC is also laying out plans in cutting-edge technologies such as hollow-core fibre and multi-core fibre, achieving full self-research, mass production, and delivery capabilities for all key raw materials, with related products reaching globally leading levels.
