Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 20, Axens, headquartered in Rueil-Malmaison, France, has completed an expansion at its Axens Catalyst Arabia Ltd. (ACAL) facility in Saudi Arabia. The project enhances the site’s production capabilities, enabling Axens to manufacture Tail Gas Treatment Catalysts alongside its existing hydroprocessing catalyst production. This makes Axens the first and only company producing Tail Gas Treatment Catalysts in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, serving the region’s oil and gas sector.
The expansion strengthens Axens’ ability to meet the needs of local and regional partners by providing advanced catalysts that support sulfur recovery and emissions reduction. The new production line, now operational, supplies the refining and gas industries with next-generation Tail Gas Treatment Catalysts. These catalysts operate at lower temperatures than traditional alternatives, reducing energy use and capital expenditure while achieving sulfur recovery rates of up to 99.9%, significantly minimizing SOx emissions.
Combined with Axens’ Claus catalysts, the new catalysts enhance operational efficiency and reliability. They offer high sulfur recovery, flexibility in operations, and compliance with stringent environmental standards. The expanded facility aligns with regional regulatory requirements, supporting industries in achieving sustainable and efficient sulfur management.
“This expansion marks a significant step in our commitment to supporting the region’s oil and gas sector with cutting-edge solutions,” said a representative from Axens. “By producing Tail Gas Treatment Catalysts locally, we ensure faster delivery and tailored support for our partners, contributing to both environmental compliance and operational excellence.”
The ACAL site’s upgraded capabilities position Axens as a key supplier in the Middle East, addressing the growing demand for advanced catalyst technologies. The project underscores Axens’ focus on innovation, enabling refineries and gas plants to optimize sulfur recovery processes while reducing environmental impact. The lower operating temperatures of the new catalysts also contribute to cost savings, making them an efficient choice for regional industries.
By expanding its manufacturing presence in Saudi Arabia, Axens reinforces its role in providing sustainable solutions for the energy sector. The facility’s ability to produce both hydroprocessing and Tail Gas Treatment Catalysts locally enhances supply chain efficiency, ensuring that regional customers have access to high-performance products that meet their operational and environmental goals.
