en.Wedoany.com Reported - Tug operator SAAM Towage has signed a contract with Brazilian shipyard Belov to build four new tugs for fleet renewal and expansion in the Brazilian market.
The new tugs feature a full-rotary design, with a bollard pull of 70 tons, equipped with a FiFi 1 fire-fighting system, and designed by international naval architecture firm Robert Allan. This order is part of SAAM Towage's fleet renewal plan in Brazil, where the company currently operates over 65 tugs across 19 ports. The Belov shipyard, located in Salvador, Bahia, will drive the development of the local maritime industry chain through this tug construction project.
Renata Ervilha, Country Manager of SAAM Towage Brazil, stated: "We are strengthening our operations in existing markets with advanced assets. Brazil is one of the most important countries for the company, so our focus is on continuous growth and providing quality services to our clients." She added: "We are pleased to partner with Belov to create value for the local logistics chain. This project will help boost the economy of Salvador, reflecting the company's commitment to the development of the local maritime industry."
Delivery of these new tugs is expected within 20 months. Previously, in April 2025, SAAM Towage obtained the ISO 14001 environmental management system certification in Brazil and completed the ISO 9001 quality management system recertification audit. This signing marks another significant move in the Brazilian market, following the announcement in June 2026 of the acquisition of 17 tugs and 4 vessels under construction operated by Starnav in Brazil.
