en.Wedoany.com Reported - Fiat recently unveiled the first official images of the Multiplina concept car, a four-seat compact electric vehicle designed for urban micro-mobility, scheduled for launch in 2028. The goal is to fill the gap between the current microcar Topolino and the brand's future compact electric vehicles. The new model's name is directly derived from the 600 Multipla, produced from 1956 to 1967, which was designed by Dante Giacosa. Despite a length of only 3.53 meters, it offered a six-seat version and is considered one of the earliest multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs).

The Multiplina aims to bring the concept of "small size, great versatility" into the electric era. From the initial images, the car features a nearly vertical front fascia, oval headlights, a roll-top roof (similar to the Citroën 2CV), and a monobox body. Its proportions are clearly inspired by the historic 600 Multipla, while some details pay homage to the classic Fiat 500. Unlike the Topolino, which is certified as a light quadricycle (L6e category), the Multiplina is expected to fall under the heavy quadricycle (L7e) category. This means its top speed will significantly exceed the Topolino's 45 km/h, allowing it to be used for travel beyond city centers.

However, the L7e classification will prevent the new car from being included in the "vehicles without a license" (VSP) category in some European countries, which allows driving without a license and exempts vehicles from requirements such as airbags and ABS. Based on available information, the Multiplina is expected to be built on an upgraded version of the existing architecture used for the Topolino and its sibling models, the Citroën Ami and Opel Rocks-e, which are produced at the Kenitra plant in Morocco. The structure is expected to be lengthened to accommodate four passengers, along with a larger capacity battery and a more powerful powertrain. The current Topolino is a two-seater with a 5.5 kWh battery and an 8-horsepower motor.

Notably, the original 600 Multipla featured a rear-engine layout, while the Topolino uses a front-engine, front-wheel-drive configuration. It remains unclear which platform the new model will adopt. Fiat has not yet released information on range, power, charging time, or pricing, but stated that the goal is to create a more practical and versatile vehicle than existing quadricycles.

The four-seat microcar plan first emerged in May of this year during Stellantis' global strategy presentation, when a new model tentatively named "Quattrolino" appeared on Fiat's future product list. Fiat CEO Olivier François stated that the Multiplina represents the missing link in the brand's urban vehicle strategy, aiming to position the manufacturer as Stellantis' primary benchmark in micro-mobility, exploring economical electrification solutions for daily use in European cities.

This strategy is already taking shape: Fiat launched the small electric three-wheeler Tris last year, also produced in Morocco, primarily for urban delivery, and introduced the "Dolcevita" version of the tuk-tuk. Additionally, the Topolino has been released in retro (Vilebrequin) and sport (Sport) series. Fiat has also partnered with the Vatican, providing 30 vehicles as part of the Holy See's fleet electrification plan.
