en.Wedoany.com Reported - Samsung is evaluating batteries with capacities between 5600 mAh and 5800 mAh for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, marking the first time since the Galaxy S20 Ultra that a Galaxy Ultra model will surpass the 5000 mAh battery capacity threshold.

According to information shared by a tipster, if testing is successful, the phone's rated capacity at launch could be at least 5500 mAh. Samsung has maintained a 5000 mAh battery capacity for its Ultra flagship models for several generations, and this upgrade is believed to be related to rumors that Apple plans to increase the battery capacity of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Despite the rumored increase in battery capacity, reports indicate that Samsung is still reluctant to adopt silicon-carbon battery technology, primarily due to cost. Using silicon-carbon batteries for 1 million Galaxy S27 Ultra units would cost Samsung between $22 million and $28 million, while using traditional lithium-ion batteries would cost only about $12 million to $15 million. Additionally, the company is facing a DRAM supply shortage and is reportedly trying to avoid increasing manufacturing costs as much as possible.

Industry insiders believe that even without switching to silicon-carbon batteries, a larger battery capacity combined with further optimization of One UI could still help Samsung improve battery life. The tip also suggests that the rumored Galaxy S27 Pro may retain a 5000 mAh battery, the same expected capacity as the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Providing a significantly larger battery for the Ultra model will help Samsung differentiate its top-tier flagship from other product lines.
