en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 3, Orica advanced the Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub project in New South Wales, Australia. The hydrogen hub plans to have an electrolysis capacity of 50 megawatts and will receive AUD 432 million in funding from the Australian government to promote the use of renewable hydrogen in industrial production.
The hydrogen produced at the Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub will be used to replace natural gas feedstock required for ammonia production at Orica's Kooragang Island facility. The project targets industrial feedstock substitution and low-carbon fuel supply scenarios, focusing on chemical production, ammonia manufacturing, and the development of the regional renewable hydrogen market. The Australian Renewable Energy Agency stated that the project will bridge the gap between the production cost of renewable hydrogen and market prices through a ten-year production subsidy mechanism.
As the hydrogen hub project enters the investment advancement phase, subsequent work will focus on engineering design, equipment procurement, electrolysis system construction, and industrial end-user integration. For New South Wales, the Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub can provide a pilot foundation for energy structure adjustment in traditional industrial areas. The specific operational timeline of the project will still depend on the construction period and supply chain arrangements.
