en.Wedoany.com Reported - L3Harris Technologies has secured a contract from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to upgrade and continue operating the agency's aircraft surveillance network through 2045.

The system consists of ground-based infrastructure that receives Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) position reports from aircraft and transmits surveillance data to FAA air traffic facilities. The work includes upgrading over 700 ground stations nationwide. Kathy Crandall, President of L3Harris Mission Networks, Space and Mission Systems, stated that the company is advancing the FAA's modernization vision by providing advanced surveillance infrastructure, and expanding network capacity helps ensure the United States maintains a leading position in global air traffic management.
The modernization efforts will also expand surveillance capabilities for new aircraft and other entrants into the National Airspace System. L3Harris currently operates a network that collects data from thousands of sources and transmits it to hundreds of FAA and government facilities through a 24-hour network operations center. According to public information, the FAA awarded L3Harris the "Surveillance and Broadcast Services Phase II (SBS II)" project contract in March 2026, valued at approximately $965 million, but the specific amount of this contract involving network upgrades through 2045 has not yet been disclosed.
The FAA operates the world's largest land-based air traffic surveillance network, and this contract extends the partnership for nearly 20 years.
