en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 20, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) allocated nearly $615 million in funding through the Airport Improvement Program, covering 238 grants across 42 states and two U.S. territories, primarily for the construction and renovation of runways, taxiways, terminals, air traffic control towers, and other airport safety facilities.

In this round of funding, Midland International Air & Space Port received $21.5 million for runway rehabilitation; the new Noatak airport construction received $19.5 million; and San Diego International Airport received $15.3 million to implement aircraft noise mitigation projects. Gary/Chicago International Airport received $8.3 million to build a new contract air traffic control tower, Lynchburg Regional Airport received $8 million for terminal construction, and Wilmington International Airport received an additional $6.3 million for runway rehabilitation.
Other projects include passenger boarding bridge construction at Sacramento International Airport, runway rehabilitation at Apple Valley Airport, contract air traffic control tower construction at Boulder City Municipal Airport and Buckeye Municipal Airport, and airport lighting and signage facility upgrades at Ohio State University Airport. Federal funding for individual projects ranges from several hundred thousand dollars to over $20 million.
The Airport Improvement Program primarily targets public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems, funding runways, taxiways, airport signage, lighting, markings, and other safety-related infrastructure. Airports receive annual allocations based on factors such as passenger throughput; when eligible project funding needs exceed existing allocations, the FAA may award additional discretionary grants.
