en.Wedoany.com Reported - A consortium comprising Hochtief CZ, Hochtief Infrastructure, Subterra, and BeMo Tunneling has been awarded a contract by Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) to construct the next phase of Prague Metro Line D. The total contract value is €1.23 billion, with Hochtief's share amounting to €428 million. The scope of work includes the construction of three new underground stations and approximately 6 kilometers of tunnel sections. Construction is set to begin within weeks of the contract award and is scheduled for completion in 2032.

Hochtief AG is a globally leading construction engineering contractor headquartered in Essen, Germany, with operations spanning transport infrastructure, energy facilities, building construction, and real estate development, maintaining branches in numerous countries and regions worldwide. Subterra is a leading Czech civil engineering and tunneling company with extensive experience in Prague Metro construction. BeMo Tunneling is a specialized contractor focused on tunneling and underground works. Prague Public Transport Company is the urban public transport operator for the Czech capital, responsible for the construction and operation of the metro, tram, and bus systems.

Prague Metro Line D is the city's fourth metro line, spanning 10.6 kilometers with 10 stations, connecting the city center with the southern suburbs and providing interchanges with the existing Line A (Green Line) and Line C (Red Line). This line is Prague's first fully automated driverless metro line. The awarded Section 1b will extend the line southward from the currently under-construction Olbrachtova station to Nové Dvory. The award process for this section faced numerous challenges, with multiple delays due to tender disputes and reviews by competition regulatory authorities. The previously completed Section 1a, approximately 1 kilometer long, covering the section from Pankrác to Olbrachtova stations, began construction in 2022.

From a technical perspective, the Line D tunnels are being constructed using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), incorporating initial shotcrete support, rock bolts, and pipe umbrella pre-support, supplemented by systematic convergence and settlement monitoring. Nové Dvory station, one of the core stations in Section 1b, is designed as a large mined cavern station, featuring steep escalator connections, a central dome structure for bidirectional excavation, and reinforced concrete column-supported branching tunnels reserved for future line extensions. The signing of this contract marks a new phase in the construction of Prague Metro Line D, with the full line expected to enter service after 2032.
