en.Wedoany.com Reported - A housing development project on a former brickworks site in Folkestone, UK, is progressing, set to deliver 77 new affordable homes. The development is being built by non-profit housing group Orbit in partnership with housebuilder Chartway, on the old brickworks site off Caesar Road.
Of the 77 homes, 35 will be for social rent and 42 will be offered through shared ownership. During a visit, developers highlighted Orbit Homes' "tenure-blind" approach, where all homes are built to the same design, safety, and customer service standards regardless of tenure type. The homes are designed with energy efficiency in mind, featuring characteristics aimed at reducing environmental impact and helping residents lower energy costs. The broader development plan also includes two public open spaces, one of which will feature a play area.
Tony Vaughan KC, MP for Folkestone and Hythe, visited the site to observe construction progress and participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new three-bedroom show home. The site had been abandoned for decades before redevelopment. Brian Nearney, Orbit's Chief Development Officer, expressed delight in showing Tony the project's progress and sharing information about the partnership with Chartway to deliver new affordable homes to support local housing needs. The development aims to increase the supply of affordable housing in the area through a mix of social rent and shared ownership homes. MP Tony Vaughan said it was great to see Orbit working with Chartway to deliver much-needed new affordable homes and looks forward to seeing continued progress on the site.
