en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dutch chemical company LyondellBasell (LYB) has launched a flexible packaging solution for the Marabou chocolate bar under US food company Mondelez. The solution uses CirculenRevive polymer, attributing 100% recycled content to the product based on the ISCC PLUS mass balance method. Through this technology, previously hard-to-recycle mixed plastic waste is converted into food-grade packaging material, with the final packaging containing 75% recycled content.

Going forward, LYB plans to supply polymers for the packaging through its catalytic chemical recycling plant MoReTec-1 in Wesseling, Germany. The plant, currently under construction, has a designed annual capacity of 50,000 tons of feedstock, which will be used to supply LYB's existing facilities after commissioning. In Eicklingen, LYB's joint venture Source One Plastics processes mixed plastic waste to produce feedstock suitable for chemical recycling. At the current stage, LYB sources recycled feedstock from third-party pyrolysis oil producers.

This project forms a complete value chain collaboration: LYB provides circular polymers, Taghleef Industries develops the base film, and Amcor processes the material into the final flexible packaging. Mondelez stated that increasing the use of recycled plastics is an important company goal; this collaboration also demonstrates that brand owners, recycling agencies, material suppliers, and processors can work together to reintroduce recycled plastics into food packaging.

The production of CirculenRevive polymer chemically converts mixed plastic waste into feedstock, and allocates circular content to the final product through the ISCC PLUS mass balance method. LYB positions this polymer as a direct replacement for virgin materials, maintaining original performance while meeting regulatory requirements, and supporting European recycling targets as well as the expected recycled content provisions under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
