en.Wedoany.com Reported - Three leading Polish universities and railway vehicle manufacturer Newag have signed a letter of intent to jointly establish a technology center focused on the research, development, and commercialization of quantum technologies. The initiative aims to position Kraków as one of the most important quantum computing hubs in Central and Eastern Europe, accelerating the transfer of research, innovation, and technology to industry.

The agreement was signed by the Kraków University of Technology, Jagiellonian University, AGH University of Science and Technology, and railway vehicle manufacturer Newag. The parties aim to establish a joint entity to coordinate research projects, develop infrastructure, and attract domestic and international funding.

The new center will integrate the expertise of the three universities in fields such as quantum physics, computer science, applied mathematics, bioengineering, chemistry, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and advanced computing systems. Through collaboration, the parties aim to develop technologies with practical application prospects, covering areas such as industry, medicine, energy, transportation, and data protection. Quantum technologies are considered one of the most important frontier fields globally because they enable computations impossible for traditional computers; these technologies can accelerate the discovery of new drugs and materials, optimize energy and transportation networks, enhance cybersecurity, and drive the development of more efficient industrial systems.

In this project, Newag participates as an industrial partner, helping to identify commercial applications for the developed technologies and providing financial support to facilitate the transformation of research results into marketable products and solutions. Andrzej Szarata, Rector of the Kraków University of Technology, stated that the cooperation between the university and Newag is a key step in building one of Europe's most important quantum technology centers, and Newag's participation demonstrates that the business community understands the strategic significance of quantum technology and is willing to support this field scientifically and financially. Piotr Jedynak, Rector of Jagiellonian University, noted that the agreement involves the application of quantum technologies in research and the development of related standards, and Newag's financial support serves as an exemplary model of public-private partnership, with the educational and research potential of Kraków's universities enabling Poland to develop the most advanced quantum solutions. Zbigniew Konieczek, CEO of Newag, stated that Kraków's academic community has brought together three major universities in a joint project, and Newag aims to become the commercial catalyst for this technological revolution, contributing not only funding but also experience in commercialization and business development, working together to build a European quantum technology center in Poland and open a new chapter for the high-tech industry.
