en.Wedoany.com Reported - Most capacity at the EemsEnergyTerminal has been booked through 2036, with limited remaining capacity available. The terminal, a joint venture between Dutch companies Gasunie and Vopak, said on Thursday that a "significant" portion of the remaining capacity has been contracted since early July for extended operating cycles.

The company stated that for the full period from 2028 to 2036, most capacity has been contracted, with approximately 2.4 billion cubic meters of capacity still available annually. This remaining capacity is still available to interested market parties on a first-come, first-served basis. Gasunie and Vopak recently made a conditional investment decision to extend the operating period of the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU)-based LNG import facility in Eemshaven beyond 2027. The final investment decision will be announced after obtaining the necessary permits.

The Eemshaven LNG hub consists of two leased FSRUs: the 170,000 cubic meter FSRU Energos Igloo, owned by Energos Infrastructure, and the 26,000 cubic meter barge-type FSRU Eemshaven LNG, owned by Exmar. The terminal has been operational since September 2022 under an initial five-year contract, making it the Netherlands' first FSRU-based terminal and the country's second LNG import terminal after Gate. It has a capacity of 8 billion cubic meters, supplying natural gas to Shell in the UK, Czech utility CEZ, and French company Engie. Among them, Shell has booked 4 billion cubic meters of capacity annually, CEZ 3 billion cubic meters, and Engie the remainder.

The partners stated that the planned expansion will increase annual natural gas imports to 8.6 billion cubic meters, accounting for approximately 25% of the Netherlands' annual natural gas demand. In October 2025, Gasunie and Vopak, in collaboration with Belgian shipowner Exmar, converted a large LNG carrier into an FSRU for installation at the LNG import facility in Eemshaven Port. Exmar said in April that it had commenced conversion work on the new FSRU, which will replace the Energos Igloo. The conversion is the next step toward achieving continuous operation of the EemsEnergyTerminal, with the expected configuration consisting of two FSRUs owned and operated by Exmar. Exmar stated that the terminal will have a total storage capacity of approximately 190,000 cubic meters of LNG and a total regasification capacity of 1.35 billion standard cubic feet per day, with improved performance.
