UK Government Approves 740 MW One Earth Solar Farm

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The UK government has recently approved the 740 MW "One Earth" solar farm in Nottinghamshire, which is expected to become the second-largest solar facility in the UK.

The project will supply power to over 200,000 households annually, using ground-mounted photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity, and is equipped with a battery energy storage system to store power and deliver it to the grid during peak demand periods.

"One Earth" is developed by Perigus (formerly Orsted) in partnership with PS Renewables. This approval follows the recent greenlighting of the Peartree Hill and Dean Moor solar farms.

Including "One Earth," the total number of nationally significant clean energy projects approved by the government since July 2024 has reached 30. According to the government, these projects collectively can provide enough clean energy to power over 19 million households.

During this parliamentary session, 42 nationally significant projects have received consent. UK Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband stated that the only way to achieve energy security is to build more clean energy in a way that promotes growth.

The government aims to increase domestic energy production and reduce reliance on volatile fossil fuel markets, which has been linked to recent global conflicts affecting supply. Additionally, the government is advancing further policy measures, including promoting plug-in solar power at retail locations and requiring solar installations on all new homes in England.
