en.Wedoany.com Reported - Samsung SDS and Elice Group have won the South Korean government's artificial intelligence (AI) research computing infrastructure project, being selected as this year's supplier, replacing Amazon Web Services (AWS), which undertook the project last year. The project, initiated by the Korea Association of ICT (KAIT), aims to provide an AI research environment for domestic industry, academia, and research institutes, with a budget of 15.3 billion won.
The Public Procurement Service's "National Marketplace" announced on the 9th that the "2026 AI Research Computing Support Project - GPU Resource Supply and Maintenance" project adopted a multi-party negotiation bidding method, with three companies, including AWS Korea, competing. The project, running from the contract signing date to December 31 of this year, is responsible for supplying and operating cloud GPU resources, providing infrastructure and operating environments for research institutions to develop ultra-large-scale AI models and large language models (LLMs).

According to the Request for Proposal (RFP), the winning bidder must secure AI computing resources, including NVIDIA H100-class GPUs and above, and provide them to researchers. Specific requirements include the ability to integrate multiple GPUs into clusters and build high-speed networks. GPU operation methods must support both fixed and dynamic allocation to accommodate different research purposes. The core requirement is not only to provide GPUs but also to support a complete research environment including central processing units (CPUs), memory, storage, and networks, enabling researchers to immediately use computing resources.
The bidding was conducted using a 100% technical evaluation method, with assessment focusing on GPU supply plans, resource scale, research environment level, operational support systems, and security capabilities. Based on the technical evaluation results in the RFP, Samsung SDS and Elice Group, ranked first and second, were selected as negotiation targets for the project. This project follows last year's first government AI research GPU supply project won by AWS, with the supplier changing again to domestic cloud companies a year later. At that time, AWS was the first global cloud company to obtain Cloud Security Assurance Program (CSAP) certification, providing GPU infrastructure for government AI research projects. Samsung SDS and Elice Group plan to sign the final contract after subsequent on-site due diligence and negotiations.
