Telefónica and Amper update DMR and TETRA networks at ten Aena airports

These networks are highly reliable and fault-tolerant communication systems. The upgrade will strengthen the resilience and availability of solutions supporting the coordination of services at each airport, helping to ensure safety and operational efficiency in high-demand environments.

DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) networks are widely used in corporate, industrial, and commercial environments. They are digital radio systems that enable clear and efficient voice and data communication. TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) networks are mission-critical digital radio communication standards designed to provide secure, reliable, and highly available communication for scenarios requiring advanced features and high availability.

The project will modernize existing infrastructure by deploying advanced authentication and encryption mechanisms covering both the network and user terminals. This will strengthen the security, integrity, and protection standards of critical communications in the airport environment, improving the reliability of operational coordination systems.

The ten airports to be upgraded over the next 36 months include: Josep Tarradellas Barcelona – El Prat, Málaga – Costa del Sol, Palma de Mallorca, A Coruña, Girona – Costa Brava, Tenerife Sur, Fuerteventura, Seve Ballesteros – Santander, La Palma, and Valencia. These airports are considered critical infrastructure within Aena's managed network.

Through this contract award, Amper and Telefónica have strengthened their partnership, enhancing their ability to undertake technically complex projects in environments requiring high availability, security, and service continuity.

Javier López Gutiérrez, Director of Telefónica Defensa y Seguridad, stated that this project confirms the company's position as a key player in the public safety sector, providing customers with the best network to access the most innovative technologies to meet communication needs. Enrique López Pérez, CEO of Amper, added that this project consolidates the company's positioning in secure communications within strategic sectors, particularly in the operation of critical infrastructure such as airports.
