Beijing 6G Space-Air-Ground Integrated Laboratory Announced, Having Gathered More Than 20 Industry Chain Entities

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 10, the Connectivity Sub-forum of the 2026 China Unicom Partner Conference was held in Shanghai. At the event, China Unicom Research Institute, together with Galaxy Space, ZTE Digital Nebula, LandSpace Hongqing, and other enterprises, announced the Beijing 6G Space-Air-Ground Integrated Laboratory. The laboratory was established under the coordinated guidance of Beijing Municipality, led by China Unicom Research Institute and China SatNet, and focuses on joint research and development in satellite-terrestrial integrated networking, core chips and terminal devices, space-air-ground integrated communications, and related application validation.

The laboratory was not newly established on a temporary basis at this conference. It has been in operation for about a year and has gathered more than 20 industry chain entities, including operators, equipment manufacturers, universities, and research institutes, covering basic research, satellite-terrestrial integrated networking, core chips and terminal devices, and application scenario development. China Unicom had previously undertaken the task of building a 6G space-air-ground integrated laboratory and carried out validation in areas such as satellite-terrestrial integration capabilities, satellite internet, and internet of vehicles. In 2025, China Unicom, together with relevant entities, completed an outfield trial of vehicle-mounted satellite communications based on a low-orbit constellation in Beijing Yizhuang, validating full-link two-way communication among "vehicle-mounted terminals—in-orbit satellites—service platforms."

The conference also announced "Unicom Star Hub," China Unicom's independently developed open interconnection foundation for satellite-terrestrial integration. The Connectivity Sub-forum also announced the China Unicom Satellite Internet Application Ecosystem Alliance and established the AIDN Innovation Industry Alliance. Subsequent cooperation will cover the large-scale commercialization of satellite internet, the 6G space-air-ground integrated industry, computing-network collaborative architecture, and the development of related technical standards.

Beijing Yizhuang is currently building the 6G SPACES New Quality Ecosystem Community, which has gathered more than 80 upstream and downstream 6G enterprises. The industry chain covers chips and components, base station equipment, satellite communication equipment, and other segments, with an industrial scale exceeding 20 billion yuan. Beijing's 2026 development plan has clearly set out to carry out research on 6G space-ground communication technologies and advance the research and development of technologies such as computing power constellations; Beijing had previously also proposed building the Beijing 6G Laboratory to advance 6G technology research, standards innovation, and industry cultivation.
