en.Wedoany.com Reported - ASSA ABLOY UK has supplied and installed a range of industrial door types for PRL Logistics, a logistics service provider for a leading supermarket.

Having previously supported PRL Logistics at its Premier Park site in Doncaster, ASSA ABLOY collaborated with contractor Fit Out UK to transform high-traffic areas within a Rotherham facility, installing the new-generation ASSA ABLOY RT1000 spiral high-speed door for the first time in the UK. This landmark upgrade, along with doors installed for a new extension, successfully bridges the gap between maximizing operational speed and climate control.

Philip Whiteley, Sales Manager for ASSA ABLOY High-Speed Doors and Loading Docks, said: "PRL Logistics operates in a fast-paced environment, moving goods, counters, and fridges for a major supermarket. The site has two buildings, including an extension, so staff must be able to move efficiently and safely between them. Our range of rigid high-speed doors provides the perfect hybrid solution, offering high-speed performance and security for the external building envelope."

Initially supplying the extension, ASSA ABLOY installed four Crawford OH1042S rapid upward-sectioning doors to provide efficient and reliable flush access between internal and external areas. These doors operate faster than standard sectional doors, helping to reduce waiting times and improve traffic flow, especially in areas frequently used by personnel and material handling equipment such as pallet trucks and forklifts. Designed for frequent daily use, these doors deliver reliable performance while supporting smooth and safe movement in a busy logistics environment.
Another key element of the installation was a gear-driven fire shutter, designed to provide essential fire protection within the building layout. Located centrally in a transition area flanked by insulated roller doors, this system plays a critical role in space separation. In the event of a fire, it helps contain the spread of flames and smoke, protecting personnel and assets. The gear system is engineered for reliability, ensuring controlled fail-safe operation that automatically closes when the building's fire alarm system is triggered, even during a power outage. This allows the site to maintain a high level of safety compliance without compromising daily operations. By integrating the fire shutter with the surrounding insulated roller doors, ASSA ABLOY provided a balanced solution combining safety, regulatory compliance, and operational flexibility in a key work area.
The old building previously used slow roller doors, which staff kept open for speed and accessibility, exposing the internal environment to external conditions during colder months. To address this challenge, ASSA ABLOY recommended installing four RT1000 spiral doors.
As the first installation of the new ASSA ABLOY RT1000 spiral door in the UK, its high-performance design enhances energy efficiency, safety, and durability for demanding industrial environments. Designed for fast operation and long service life, the RT1000 is ideal for logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, and automotive dealership sites seeking to optimize operational processes and reduce energy loss. During high-speed operation, rigid aluminum door panels coil into a circular "spiral" guide at the top, enabling quick opening, quiet operation, and minimal wear as the panels do not contact each other when coiling.
To further enhance operational efficiency and safety, PRL Logistics' RT1000 doors are fully automated, featuring radar activation on both sides for hands-free opening and closing, ensuring smooth, uninterrupted traffic flow between buildings and the site. The RT1000 achieves an opening speed of up to 1.75 m/s and a controlled closing speed of up to 0.6 m/s.
To connect the two buildings, ASSA ABLOY installed enhanced insulated roller doors, serving as a connecting passage between the buildings while forming a secure enclosure area. As this area is not frequently used and does not require high-speed doors, the insulated roller doors provide a practical solution for storing plant and equipment, allowing easy access and movement to the main site when necessary.
