en.Wedoany.com Reported - KT (Korea Telecom) recently established the "Information Security Advisory Committee" to address cybersecurity challenges arising from artificial intelligence and cloud transformation, and plans to build a global-level information security system. Under the leadership of CEO Park Yoon-young, the company is evolving from a traditional telecommunications provider into an AI transformation (AX) platform company.

The committee was officially inaugurated on the 10th of this month at KT Gwanghwamun Building in Seoul, comprising top domestic experts in policy and regulation, technology security, industrial services, AI, and zero trust. The first advisory committee members include Park Chun-sik, Director of the Korea Zero Trust Security Association; Professor Jung Eun-soo from the Department of Digital Security at Cheongju University; Professor Kwak Jin from the Department of Cybersecurity at Ajou University; Professor Yoon Myung-geun from the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Kookmin University; Advisor Kim Hong-sun from Kim & Chang Law Firm; Professor Park Chul-joon from the Department of Computer Engineering at Kyung Hee University; and Advisor Choi Kwang-hee from the law firm Sejong. The committee will review KT's information security strategy from an objective perspective and provide advisory on mid- to long-term strategy formulation, AI attack response, prevention of generative AI misuse, zero trust security system construction, strengthening advanced cyberattack response systems, compliance reviews, and ecosystem collaboration.

Against the backdrop of AI proliferation and cloud transformation, the committee will focus on providing advisory in core areas such as AI security, cloud security, and network security to assist KT in establishing a zero trust security system and enhancing its ability to respond to future threats. Earlier this year, KT newly established a Personal Information Protection Advisory Committee, creating a governance structure where information security and personal information protection are managed separately by specialized bodies. The Personal Information Protection Advisory Committee includes experts such as Professor Emeritus Eom Heung-yeol from Soonchunhyang University; Professor Lee Hee-jung from Korea University; Professor Yoo Jae-chul from Chungnam National University; Professor Son Ki-wook from Seoul National University of Science and Technology; Secretary General Shim Sang-hyun from the Korea CPO Forum; and CEO Kim Kyung-ha from JN Security, primarily responsible for policy advisory on data utilization and customer information protection.

In terms of internal organization, KT has consolidated dispersed security functions, including IT and network security, into a newly established "Information Security Office," and has separated the roles of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Chief Privacy Officer (CPO). The CISO is Lee Sang-woon, an Executive Vice President and security expert with over 30 years of experience in information security and financial IT at the Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute. KT is also expanding its zero trust normalization prevention system based on the principle of "never trust, always verify" and upgrading AI security technologies. Specific measures include real-time analysis of endpoint device abnormal behavior through the "Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR)" system, analysis of abnormal network traffic through the "Network Detection and Response (NDR)" system, and upgrading the "micro-segmentation architecture" to block damage spread in the event of an intrusion. KT has completed pilot applications of micro-segmentation on major systems and plans to complete stability verification this year before expanding it to the entire business environment.

In his first press conference after taking office, KT CEO Park Yoon-young stated that the company will invest a total of 12 trillion won over the next three years to strengthen the fundamental competitiveness of the telecommunications company, with 4 trillion won allocated to information security and IT innovation and 8 trillion won to the network sector. Park noted that in the era of AI transformation, information security has become the most basic commitment a company makes to its customers. KT will translate expert insights into action, build a proactive prevention system based on zero trust, and strive to become the most trusted AX platform company.
