en.Wedoany.com Reported - Puerto Angamos in northern Chile recently welcomed one of the largest vessels in its operational history—the "Grete Maersk," a container ship measuring 367 meters in length.

To service this ultra-large vessel, the terminal deployed five mobile cranes for simultaneous loading and unloading operations, supported by approximately 60 staff members.

Dania Ogalde, head of maritime operations at Puerto Angamos, stated that the operation benefited from coordinated planning, enabling the terminal to operate at maximum handling capacity.

Javier Canales, supervisor of the Ultraport control room and yard, noted that the vessel required 1,784 moves, posing challenges for the operation. To address this, the terminal deployed 10 crane operators, 5 reach stacker operators in the yard area, and 20 tractor drivers to supply the cranes.

Ogalde concluded that this set a new benchmark for the terminal, demonstrating the technical expertise of the Puerto Angamos and Ultraport teams in handling large vessels with high levels of safety and productivity. Located in the Antofagasta region of northern Chile, Puerto Angamos is a key export port for copper and an industrial cargo hub. Operated by Ultraport, the port has continuously enhanced its infrastructure capacity in recent years to accommodate the trend toward larger vessels. The "Grete Maersk," a G-class container ship of Maersk Line, can carry approximately 15,000 TEUs and serves deep-sea routes from the west coast of South America to Europe or Asia.
