Panama's Major Ports See 861,000 TEUs in May Container Throughput, Up 1.8% Year-on-Year
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Container throughput at Panama's major ports increased by 1.8% year-on-year in May, reaching 860,983 TEUs, compared with 845,594 TEUs in the same period last year.

According to data released by Panama's National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), this growth was jointly driven by increased throughput at terminals on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, although declines at some ports partially offset the overall increase.
On the Atlantic coast, the Colon Container Terminal (CCT) handled 167,660 TEUs in May, up 15.2% year-on-year. SSA Marine MIT saw throughput rise 14.8% year-on-year to 262,108 TEUs, making it the largest container terminal within the port system.
On the Pacific coast, PSA Panama International Terminal saw throughput increase 1.9% year-on-year to 131,066 TEUs. Panama Ports Company Balboa recorded the same 1.9% increase, with throughput reaching 221,536 TEUs during the period.
The overall growth was dampened by declines at some terminals. The largest decrease was at Panama Ports Company Cristóbal, where container throughput fell 39.8% to 71,096 TEUs. Bocas Fruit Terminal saw operations contract by 0.2%, totaling 6,708 TEUs.
