en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 12, 2026, ISE Energía completed a large-scale industrial self-consumption photovoltaic plant in the Asturias region of Spain, directly connected to the internal grid of the metallurgical company Asturiana de Zinc. Located on the former tailings pond site of El Espartal in Salinas, the project has faced technical challenges since its launch in November 2024, including strong northeast wind gusts reaching speeds of up to 140 km/h.

To address high wind loads, the project adopted a ballasted structure solution with specific tilt angles, ensuring infrastructure stability without the need for ground drilling, thereby adapting to the site's unique geological conditions.

After passing relevant technical tests, the plant has been synchronized with the internal grid of Asturiana de Zinc. Once operational, it is expected to generate 32,600 MWh of electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 6,000 tons per year.

For Asturiana de Zinc, this project represents a strategic move to decarbonize its high-energy-consumption industrial processes. By diversifying its energy sources through self-generation, the company aims to reduce its dependence on energy market price fluctuations, thereby enhancing its competitiveness.

Beyond environmental benefits, the plant also brings economic and social value to the surrounding area. Both ISE Energía and Asturiana de Zinc have stated that during construction, priority was given to local suppliers, aiming to retain the added value generated by the energy transition within the Asturias region and strengthen the local industrial base.

David Fernández, Director of ISE Energía, stated that the plant's commissioning proves that large-scale self-consumption has become a viable and highly competitive alternative, marking significant progress in the transformation of the energy model.

ISE Energía specializes in providing turnkey photovoltaic projects (EPC) for high-energy-consumption users. Since its founding in 2019, leveraging the Gransolar Group's over two decades of experience in the photovoltaic industry, it has developed a cumulative installed capacity exceeding 150 MW. This project further solidifies its influence in the industrial self-consumption sector.
