en.Wedoany.com Reported - July 14, 2026, Iberdrola BP Pulse has launched a new electric vehicle charging hub near Albufeira in the Algarve region of Portugal, bringing the company's total number of charging sites in the country to over 500.

The new charging hub is located in the outdoor parking lot of the Guia Algarve Shopping Center and can simultaneously support the charging of eight electric vehicles. The facility is equipped with eight charging points, including six ultra-fast chargers (two 400 kW and four 200 kW) and two 50 kW chargers. With this configuration, a vehicle with an average energy consumption of 16 kWh/100 km can recover approximately 400 km of range in 10 minutes, provided the vehicle supports the corresponding power and optimal charging conditions are met.

To ensure fast and reliable charging even when all charging points are operating at full capacity, the hub integrates a battery energy storage system with a capacity of approximately 1 MWh. This system will operate in an intermediate phase, pending administrative approval for its final configuration, similar to the solution implemented at the Nazaré West service area on the A8 highway. At the Moscavide hub, the battery is a permanent component of the facility.

Ricardo Pacheco, Country Manager for Iberdrola BP Pulse Portugal, stated that the facility will provide local drivers and tourists visiting the Algarve with a modern and reliable electric vehicle charging solution. He added that the new hub combines ultra-fast charging with the convenience of card payments, demonstrating that the perception of "EV charging being slow and complicated" is increasingly outdated. Service access has been simplified, allowing users to pay directly at the charging point with a bank card without the need for a pre-signed contract.

Iberdrola BP Pulse has also signed commercial agreements with several e-mobility service providers, enabling their customers to use this infrastructure. The new hub is powered by 100% renewable electricity and has reserved space for future expansion to 18 charging points, subject to administrative approval. Located at the Algarve Shopping Center, users can enjoy services such as dining, supermarkets, and fashion stores while their vehicles charge. The charging area is also covered, providing shelter for both vehicles and drivers.

This opening further expands Iberdrola BP Pulse's ultra-fast charging network on the Iberian Peninsula, meeting the growing demand from electric vehicle drivers in Portugal.
