en.Wedoany.com Reported - A marine survey campaign has been launched to collect critical data for the submarine cable project of Terna, Italy's national grid operator.

This power connection project is part of Terna's Hypergrid initiative, planning to construct an approximately 500-kilometer high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line, of which 280 kilometers will be submarine sections, with a transmission capacity of 2100 megawatts. The submarine cable section will start at a converter station in Montalto di Castro, utilizing an industrial site currently being decommissioned; it will end near Avenza, where an overhead line transition station will be built at the site of Terna's existing substation.

The project will connect the Lazio and Lombardy regions, passing through Tuscany, Liguria, and Emilia-Romagna. Terna stated that the Hypergrid plan aims to enhance the transmission capacity and flexibility of Italy's power grid, supporting the integration of renewable energy. As a core component of Terna's future grid strategy, Hypergrid will drive the modernization of Italy's power system and improve the efficiency of electricity exchange between northern and southern regions. The launch of this marine survey marks the substantive advancement of the Milan-Montalto connection line.
