en.Wedoany.com Reported - RWE will implement a repowering project at the Rethen-Vordorf wind farm in the Gifhorn district of Germany, Lower Saxony, replacing three old turbines with three modern ones. After repowering, the wind farm's installed capacity will quadruple from 5.4 MW to 21 MW, expected to supply electricity to approximately 17,000 households. Construction is about to begin, with the project planned to be operational by the end of 2027.

Sopna Sury, Chief Executive Officer of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, stated that with the same number of turbines, capacity has quadrupled, and by modernizing old wind farms, more electricity can be generated at the same location. The region will also benefit, as a total of 0.3 euro cents per kilowatt-hour of electricity generated will be paid to local authorities and the project, including 0.1 euro cents under the Lower Saxony Participation Act, which could bring in up to 165,000 euros annually.

Against the backdrop of growing electricity demand, RWE considers renewable energy a cornerstone for ensuring energy supply. Onshore wind power generation is cost-effective and has a proven track record. The company operates onshore wind farms in Germany with an installed capacity of approximately 770 MW and is continuously expanding. To strengthen its regional focus in wind and solar energy, RWE covers all of Germany through seven regional offices and is actively seeking suitable sites for wind, solar, and battery projects nationwide.
