en.Wedoany.com Reported - Algeria's national oil company (Sonatrach) has delivered its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to Germany, loaded at the GL2Z liquefaction plant in Bethioua and transported by the company's own LNG carrier "Tessala".

The LNG was unloaded at the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit No. 1 in Wilhelmshaven on the German North Sea coast, allowing Sonatrach to directly access Europe's largest gas market by leveraging Germany's expanding LNG import infrastructure.
This shipment marks Sonatrach's first LNG sale to Germany, complementing its long-standing pipeline exports to Southern Europe and extending the company's commercial reach beyond traditional markets such as Spain, Italy, France, and Portugal.
Sonatrach stated that this delivery demonstrates its ability to respond to changes in the global gas market through flexible maritime exports, while reinforcing its position as a reliable supplier to Europe's strategic energy markets.
Prior to this milestone, Sonatrach and German energy company VNG AG signed a memorandum of understanding in June 2026 to expand cooperation in green hydrogen, methane emission reduction, and future energy infrastructure.
The agreement supports feasibility studies for hydrogen transport infrastructure related to the proposed 3,300-kilometer SoutH2 corridor, which plans to connect Algeria to Germany via Tunisia, Italy, and Austria.
The first cargo highlights the deepening energy cooperation between Algeria and Germany. As Europe continues to diversify its natural gas supply, Algeria's LNG and pipeline exports form part of Europe's energy security strategy.
