en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK architecture firm Allies and Morrison has released new renderings of the £45 million renovation plan for Sheffield's Crucible Theatre. Built in 1971, the venue has been famous for hosting the World Snooker Championship annually since 1977. In recent years, the Crucible Theatre has urgently needed upgrades, sparking concerns that the snooker event might move to a new overseas venue. Earlier this year, governing body World Snooker reached an agreement with the city council to keep the event at the Crucible until 2045, though the 2029 championship will be held elsewhere due to renovation work.

Allies and Morrison's plan will increase the theatre's capacity from 964 to 1,500 seats (in-the-round configuration), while comprehensively improving audience experience and backstage facilities for a modern upgrade. Firm director Oliver Heywood stated that the work focuses on three areas: introducing the ability to temporarily expand audience capacity to accommodate snooker events and in-the-round performances; expanding public and support areas to host more visitors; and improving the building's exterior to better integrate with and activate adjacent public spaces. Other companies involved in the plan include engineering firm Arup and acoustics-focused theatre company Charcoal Blue.
