en.Wedoany.com Reported - Cascade Architectural, a US building materials company, has introduced the Fabricoil system, a versatile facade screening solution suitable for a wide range of project types and scales. This system is easy to install and requires low maintenance, backed by an in-house engineering team with nearly 40 years of international project experience. These engineered architectural metal mesh solutions offer a rich selection of material designs and attachment system options, available in various natural metal finishes or standard and custom powder-coated colors, all meeting stringent "Red List Free" standards. By adjusting parameters such as weave size (aperture), wire diameter, and fullness, the system enables precise control over light, transparency, airflow, privacy, and security.
Andrew Schoenheit, Vice President of Cascade Coil, noted that designers are constantly seeking new innovative systems to incorporate into their projects. He believes that the soft appearance and material fluidity of the coiled wire mesh after installation distinguish it from other typically rigid screening solutions, such as expanded metal, perforated panels, or louvers, where scale often becomes a limiting factor.
Five case studies across different building types demonstrate the broad applicability of the Fabricoil system, covering applications ranging from developing woven wire mesh facade systems, shading and daylighting solutions, to security perimeter barriers, mechanical screening, and various custom architectural metal mesh projects.
The VCU Health Adult Outpatient Building in Richmond, Virginia, designed by HDR, features an integrated parking structure utilizing the Fabricoil system. Cascade's coiled wire mesh transforms the ordinary parking structure into a prominent feature of the building, standing out in the Richmond skyline. The system uses over 40,000 square feet of Fabricoil to wrap three sides of the building, not only protecting the parking levels but also serving as mechanical screening at the rear of the facade, with specially designed tight-wrapped corners and density to enhance fall and jump protection.

The West Deck and South Deck parking structures at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, designed by Fitzgerald Collaborative Group, showcase the Fabricoil system's ability to efficiently cover large spans while maintaining consistent finish and material quality. During installation, long rolls of coiled wire mesh were lifted and transported to the top of the parking structure via crane, secured, and then unrolled to additional anchor points on each level, terminating at the structure's base. The system complements the dynamic sculpture installation by Ned Khan on the top level, providing shading and security benefits while enclosing the parking structure without restricting natural airflow, reducing the need for costly mechanical ventilation and maintenance.

The ground floor of the new Phoenix Police Department headquarters, designed by Arrington Watkins Architects, features a copper-clad Fabricoil system that showcases graphic designs by local artists while maintaining transparency for interior views. The system is installed on horizontal sliding tracks in front of the building's ground-floor windows, used to shield against potential impacts and restrict unauthorized entry. It can be temporarily removed for window maintenance.

The Hedrick Middle School in Lewisville, Texas, designed by Stantec, specified the Fabricoil system to diffuse the effects of intense sunlight. Installed in vertical fin orientations at two different campus locations, the system excels at reducing solar heat gain and glare, improving occupant comfort without limiting views or reducing light transmission, unlike rigid panel vertical fin alternatives such as perforated metal panels. Unrestricted exterior views are critical in this learning environment.
In San Bernardino, California, the December 2, 2015 Courage Curtain Memorial, designed by Hood Design Studio, uses the Fabricoil system for sculptural purposes, weaving the memory of 14 lives into a laser-cut steel curtain. Through the gaps in the memorial, the satin gold curtain reveals a honeycomb design, demonstrating the system's flexibility to add visual appeal and complement meaningful decorative projects.
The Fabricoil coiled wire mesh system is manufactured in the United States and is available in a variety of sizes, colors, finishes, and attachment styles, customizable to meet specific project requirements ranging from functional or performance standards to unique design choices and sustainability goals. Cascade Architectural offers custom architectural metal mesh cladding and screening solutions for ventilated parking structures, shading solutions, and blast and ballistic systems for disaster-prone environments, high-threat facilities, and extreme weather conditions, as well as countless custom interior applications through fixed room partitions, operable partitions, architectural ceiling features, security doors, decorative screens, safety barriers, curtains, wall coverings, water features, and more.
Cascade Architectural's in-house team can review design options, customization opportunities, engineered attachment systems, and support services, and discuss the system's "Red List Free" sustainability contributions to determine the best material and system attributes for a project.
