en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 20, German renewable energy developer Ib vogt advanced the Wagga North battery energy storage project in New South Wales, Australia. The storage project has a planned capacity of 120MW/480MWh, located within the Wagga Wagga Special Activation Precinct, covering an area of approximately 26.94 hectares. It will utilize lithium iron phosphate battery technology with a storage duration of 4 hours.
The Wagga North energy storage project plans to connect to the Transgrid Wagga North substation, primarily aimed at enhancing regional grid stability and power supply reliability. The Wagga Wagga Special Activation Zone, where the project is located, is a government-supported economic development area, with increasing local electricity demand and renewable energy integration needs. Once completed, the battery energy storage system will provide regulation capabilities during fluctuations in power supply and demand, and absorb surplus electricity when renewable energy output is high.
Since entering the Australian market in 2016, Ib vogt has commercially advanced over 400MW of solar projects locally. The company has also previously announced plans to build a 120MW solar power station in New South Wales, paired with a 120MW/480MWh energy storage system. As the Wagga North energy storage project moves into the advancement phase, subsequent work will focus on engineering design, equipment procurement, site construction, grid connection, and system testing. Whether the project proceeds to construction as planned will depend on environmental conditions, vegetation management, waste management, and the implementation of grid connection arrangements.
