The Bornholm Energy Island project will aggregate 3 GW of offshore wind power in the Baltic Sea and transmit electricity to Denmark and Germany via supporting transmission infrastructure, making it one of Denmark's major energy infrastructure projects.

This contract covers the construction of three converter station buildings for the Bornholm Energy Island project, one located on Zealand and two on Bornholm Island, as well as a 400 kV high-voltage substation building on Bornholm Island. Per Aarsleff stated that the contract value is approximately DKK 3.7 billion, with formal signing subject to a 10-day standstill period. The project tender was launched in September 2025, and following the confirmation of this contract, the onshore electrical facility construction phase enters the preparation stage for implementation.

According to current arrangements, construction work for the Bornholm Energy Island project is scheduled to begin in spring 2027, with related buildings expected to be completed between 2030 and 2031. Subsequently, Siemens Energy will install the converter stations and 400 kV high-voltage substation electrical equipment. The Bornholm Energy Island is jointly advanced by Energinet and German transmission operator 50Hertz, with the project and related offshore wind farms expected to become operational in 2036. Future priorities for the Bornholm Energy Island will focus on construction, electrical equipment installation, offshore wind integration, and cross-border transmission system commissioning.
