en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 17, UK energy storage developer Fidra Energy secured funding for the construction of the West Burton C energy storage project. Located on the site of the former West Burton coal-fired power station in Nottinghamshire, England, the project is planned with a capacity of 500MW/1,100MWh, making it one of the UK's larger battery energy storage system projects.

Fidra Energy plans to commence construction of the West Burton C energy storage project later this year, with full commercial operation targeted for 2028. Project funding sources include the company's own capital, investment from the UK National Wealth Fund, and a new loan facility totaling £231 million. The loan is provided by an international banking syndicate, comprising a term loan and supporting credit instruments. The project will utilize Sungrow energy storage technology, with H&MV Engineering responsible for the primary design, construction, and commissioning of the 400kV grid connection.

Once completed, the West Burton C energy storage project will be capable of providing power support for approximately 300,000 households during peak electricity demand periods. Half of the project's capacity has secured a long-term offtake agreement with UK power company Drax, supported by a 15-year capacity market contract commencing in October 2028. Fidra Energy currently holds a pipeline of over 4GW of battery energy storage projects in the UK. The advancement of the West Burton C energy storage project will strengthen the practice of transitioning retired coal-fired power station sites into grid flexibility assets in the UK.
