This project may involve constructing a 150-acre data center with a capacity of 50 to 100 megawatts within the county-owned Peak View Business Park. Local media have disclosed that the proposed development is internally codenamed "Project Flash."

Since November, Franklin County officials and Crusoe have been in contact regarding this matter, though neither party has made public comments. The proposed site, Peak View Business Park, is located along U.S. Route 220, spans 540 acres, and already has existing electricity and natural gas infrastructure in place. The county has been acquiring this land since 2016.

Founded in 2018, Crusoe initially focused on cryptocurrency mining before strategically pivoting to the development of AI data centers and cloud services. The company is currently advancing projects simultaneously in multiple locations, including Wyoming, Missouri, Texas, and Canada. Crusoe recently disclosed that its contracted AI infrastructure capacity has reached 4.9 gigawatts, with a development pipeline exceeding 40 gigawatts.

While Franklin County officials have not commented on the specific project, they stated their commitment to pursuing economic development opportunities aligned with the county's long-term vision. The county aims to encourage responsible growth that creates jobs, strengthens the local tax base, and supports public services while preserving residents' quality of life. Officials confirmed that relevant information will be publicly shared when legally permissible, and any project requiring a public hearing will proceed in accordance with Virginia state law.
