Bechtel Picked for Main Phases of 1.3GW ‘Mammouth’ Solar Farm
Wedoany.com Report-May 20, Doral Renewables, a U.S.-based renewable energy developer, has selected Bechtel to construct three phases of its 1.3GW Mammoth Solar farm in Indiana. This initiative is expected to increase the state’s solar capacity by 20%. The project includes the “South,” “Central I,” and “Central II” phases, which will collectively generate 900MW of power, sufficient to supply electricity to approximately 200,000 households.

Over the next two years, Bechtel will oversee the installation of about 2 million solar panels, with half sourced from U.S. manufacturers. The scope of work also includes the setup of power cables and substations to support the facility’s operations. The project is described as one of the largest solar initiatives in the United States, highlighting its significance in advancing renewable energy infrastructure.
At its peak, the Mammoth Solar farm will create around 1,200 jobs, with 15% of the workforce comprising apprentices. “A project of this scale depends on strong collaboration with local building trades to ensure access to the skilled workforce needed,” said Scott Austin, Bechtel’s renewables general manager. This effort underscores the importance of local partnerships in delivering large-scale renewable energy projects.
Once construction is complete, Doral Renewables plans to integrate sustainable land-use practices by incorporating livestock grazing and crop cultivation around the solar panels. This approach aims to balance energy production with agricultural activity, promoting environmental and economic benefits for the region. The project represents a significant step toward expanding clean energy access in Indiana while supporting local communities through job creation and sustainable practices.
