en.Wedoany.com Reported - D.Trading, the trading arm of Ukraine's largest private electricity and natural gas producer DTEK, has secured three out of five regasification slots at Lithuania's Klaipėda LNG terminal for 2027. These regasification slots, provided by KN Energies, cover the periods of February-March, May-June, and October-November 2027. KN Energies auctioned up to 5 TWh/year of regasification capacity, equivalent to five conventional LNG cargo slots.
This capacity allocation further solidifies D.Trading's position as an emerging regional LNG importer, supporting its plans to supply natural gas to Ukraine and neighboring countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Earlier in the current gas year, D.Trading secured Ukraine's first LNG cargo on a free-on-board (FOB) basis, delivered via the Klaipėda LNG terminal.
Daniel Hacki, European Commercial Director at D.Trading, stated that in the current gas market, gaining access to infrastructure is as important as securing molecules. By ensuring regasification capacity at Klaipėda for 2026 and 2027, the company is creating a reliable route for global LNG to supply customers in Central and Eastern Europe, including Ukraine. Hacki noted that long-term capacity bookings provide the flexibility and certainty needed to build a resilient supply chain, adapt to changing market conditions, and continue supporting Europe's move away from dependence on Russian gas.
The tender was held in the first half of July, with results announced subsequently. Additionally, KN Energies recently completed a long-term capacity allocation procedure for the Klaipėda LNG terminal covering the period 2033-2044. The operator allocated over 20 TWh of regasification capacity, including 8 TWh contracted through 2044 and an additional 12 TWh reserved through 2040, indicating sustained market interest in the terminal's long-term use. The five companies that secured long-term capacity bookings include Lithuania's Ignitis, Latvia's Latvenergo, Norway's Equinor, and new customers Finland's Gasum and Ukraine's Naftogaz.
