en.Wedoany.com Reported - Southern Perú Copper Corporation (Southern Perú) had committed $1.101 billion to the Tía María copper mine project in the Arequipa region as of June this year, of which $693 million has been actually invested. The project is expected to commence production in the second half of 2027.

The Tía María project has achieved 42% overall progress and created 5,817 new jobs, of which 1,254 positions have been filled by local applicants. The company stated that the construction phase of the project is planned to provide approximately 6,000 jobs, with priority given to workers from the Islay province.

The company, a subsidiary of Grupo México, noted that large-scale earthworks have moved 13.85 million tons of material from the La Tapada deposit, with this portion of the work reaching 71% completion.

In terms of equipment procurement, the company has placed the vast majority of purchase orders for major project equipment. For the leaching process, key equipment utilizing the latest technology has been ordered, while procurement of other major equipment is still ongoing.

The Tía María copper mine project will adopt next-generation ESDE technology that meets the highest international environmental standards, with a designed annual production capacity of 120,000 tons of ESDE cathode copper.

Regarding the power supply system, electromechanical work on the main substation and construction of the 220 kV transmission line are progressing. Meanwhile, large-scale earthworks in both the dry and wet areas have entered their final stages.

Civil engineering and metal structure installation for key facilities have commenced, including the primary, secondary, and tertiary crusher circuits (dry area) as well as the solvent extraction (SX) and electrowinning (EW) facilities (wet area).
