Wedoany.com Report-May 31, American Tower has officially launched its first Edge Data Centre in North Carolina, marking a key step in expanding its digital infrastructure capabilities. The launch was commemorated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held in Raleigh, the location of the new facility.

This 4,000-square-foot data centre is situated at the base of an existing American Tower cellular site. It integrates wireless and data services in a single location to meet the increasing demand for advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), hybrid cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT). These technologies rely heavily on low latency, robust infrastructure, and reliable connectivity between service providers.

The new Edge Data Centre is equipped with one megawatt of power and can be scaled to support several more. Each rack is designed to handle an average of 15 kilowatts, allowing for high-performance computing and flexibility in handling various workloads.

To ensure operational stability, the facility features an A/B power design, backup generators, and N+1 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. It also includes multiple fibre connections for high-speed data transmission, 24/7 customer support, and multilayered security protocols to safeguard data and systems.

American Tower highlighted the strategic importance of this development: "Our Edge Data Centres address the need for reliable, low-latency infrastructure by extending computing capabilities beyond traditional centralised models to deliver a more distributed, interoperable edge computing experience for end customers."

The company also emphasized the adaptability of the new site, stating: "The Raleigh Data Centre capabilities underscore our focus on providing customers with reliable infrastructure and connectivity, along with the flexibility and scalability to grow and capitalise on new opportunities."
