Wedoany.com Report-Jun 1, Skanska, a leading project development and construction group, has signed a contract with Specialfastigheter Sverige, a Swedish state-owned property company, to expand and renovate the Österåker correctional facility, located north of Stockholm, Sweden. The agreement, valued at approximately Skr1.3 billion ($136 million), will be recorded in Skanska’s Swedish order bookings for the second quarter of 2025.
The overall construction plan involves the reconstruction of two buildings, 13 new buildings, and various smaller service structures.

Additionally, the work includes essential ground and foundation preparations. Skanska has been involved in the project since early 2022, completing preparatory works and finalizing the last phase of the construction plan. The total project value, including previously billed work, amounts to approximately Skr2.7 billion. The completed sections will be handed over to Specialfastigheter Sverige in phases, with the process continuing until autumn 2027.
Skanska’s operations span Europe and North America, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality construction projects. The company has recently secured several contracts across Scandinavia, showcasing its expertise in the region. For instance, in Norway, Skanska is working with Statkraft to enhance a water tunnel and construct a new 2km access tunnel at the Saurdal hydroelectric power plant. In Sweden, Skanska is tasked with building three new structures and performing associated groundwork at the Skogome prison in Gothenburg for Specialfastigheter Sverige.
Furthermore, in April 2025, Skanska entered into a Skr580 million ($58.4 million) agreement with the Municipality of Landskrona to construct a football stadium and an indoor swim centre. Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2025, with the football arena expected to be completed by 2027 and the swim centre by 2028.
