en.Wedoany.com Reported - Angolan fertilizer developer Amufert has formed a nine-member board of directors for its gas-based ammonia and urea complex in Soyo, Zaire Province. The board, comprising seven executive directors and two non-executive directors, will oversee project delivery, procurement, financial control, supply chain development, and commissioning readiness, with construction now underway.
The complex is designed to produce approximately 1.3 million metric tons of urea annually, using domestic natural gas as feedstock, with carbon dioxide captured during ammonia production to be utilized in urea manufacturing. The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has committed $1.4 billion in debt financing as mandated lead arranger; the project sponsors are Angolan conglomerate Opaia and state-owned company Sonangol P&P Natural Gas.
Amufert expects the plant to become operational in 2027, with products targeting Angola's domestic fertilizer market and neighboring countries. The project could help the region reduce its reliance on imported nitrogen fertilizers; local application rates remain among the lowest globally, and farmers also bear high logistics and distribution costs.
