Namibia's Dâures Green Fertilizer Project Secures US$3.6 Million in Development Funding, Plans Annual Production of 80,000 Tonnes of Ammonium Sulphate
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 10, SDG Namibia One and Enersense Energy Namibia signed a development financing agreement for the Dâures Green Fertilizer Project. SDG Namibia One will contribute up to US$3.6 million, included within a project development budget of up to US$7.07 million, and will participate in advancing the project as a co-developer. The funding comes from support provided by the EU Global Gateway and Invest International, and is primarily intended for front-end engineering design, market development, permitting, environmental and social studies, and converting existing market interest into bankable offtake agreements.

The project is located in the Dâures constituency of the Erongo region in Namibia. During the commercial phase, it will be developed by Enersense Energy Namibia and implemented through the project company Daures Fertilizer Solutions, with Mondjila Project Advisory and Management serving as transaction advisor and project manager. The planned site covers approximately 15,000 hectares, and the energy system will operate in a fully off-grid mode, comprising 60 MWp of solar PV, 10 MW of wind power, and a 65 MWh battery energy storage system.
The chemical plant is planned to be equipped with a 40 MW alkaline electrolyser to produce green hydrogen, and to produce green ammonia through a Haber-Bosch synthesis stage. The project's commercial-scale design capacity is up to 20,000 tonnes per year of green ammonia and up to 80,000 tonnes per year of ammonium sulphate fertilizer. Unlike projects focused solely on green hydrogen production, this phase has already incorporated electrolytic hydrogen production, ammonia synthesis, and ammonium sulphate fertilizer production into the development scope of a single industrial facility.
The project has previously built pilot and proof-of-concept facilities. The relevant pilot activities have received cumulative funding support of approximately US$17.7 million, and the current plan is to produce the first batch of Namibian locally produced green fertilizer in the fourth quarter of 2026, providing operational data for the subsequent commercial plant. The second commercial phase is planned to complete front-end engineering work in 2027, with a final investment decision target of June 2028, a financial close target in the second quarter of 2028, and a commercial operation target in the first quarter of 2030.
The project development phase has now formed an implementation chain of "development financing—FEED and permitting—bankability of offtake agreements—financial close—FID—construction—commercial operation." The US$3.6 million in funding corresponds to development-phase expenditures, not the total investment in construction of the commercial plant.
