Vaud, Switzerland Grants CHF 100,000 to Promote Recycled Glass Fiber Applications

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 11, Swiss glass fiber recycling company Verretex announced that, together with MAD skis and Suter Kunststoffe, it has received CHF 100,000 in funding from the Vaud Office for Economic and Innovation Promotion (SPEI) to further introduce recycled glass fiber into composite products. The project will focus on material performance optimization, product validation, and supply chain development, while continuing to use end products such as skis as application validation targets.

The three-party collaboration had previously entered the prototype validation stage. In June 2025, MAD skis produced a ski prototype using Verretex recycled glass fiber to test the feasibility of replacing virgin glass fiber with recycled reinforcing material while maintaining existing performance levels. With this funding, the focus of the collaboration will extend from prototype validation to material improvement, performance confirmation, and the development of a recycled glass fiber supply system.

Verretex's technical approach is to recover and regenerate the performance of glass fiber waste from end-of-life composite materials, then process it into glass fiber fabrics that can be reused in new composite products. The Solar Impulse Foundation recently disclosed that the company's material uses 100% recycled glass fiber and has been tested in applications including wind power, marine, automotive, and sporting goods; the company's figures state that its solution can reduce CO2 emissions by up to approximately 80% compared with virgin glass fiber.

In this project, MAD skis is responsible for end-product application validation, Suter Kunststoffe provides technology and supply chain capabilities related to fiber-reinforced composites and liquid resins, and Verretex is responsible for the recycled glass fiber material. At this stage, publicly available information has not yet disclosed the specific fiber specifications, resin system, material quantities, testing cycle, or product mass-production timeline planned for this round of the project.

Verretex is also concurrently advancing another industrial R&D project for recycled glass fiber. According to the Swiss federal research database, the project "Upgrading Waste Glass Fiber into Short-Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites," in which the company participates, was launched in July 2026 and is planned to run until June 2028, with total approved project costs of approximately CHF 501,600.
