BASF's Durasorb technology commissioned at Cheniere's U.S. LNG facility, with remaining production lines to be covered by end of 2027

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 9, BASF announced that its Durasorb LNG MAX adsorptive pretreatment technology has been commissioned on some production lines at Cheniere Energy's Corpus Christi LNG facility in Texas. The related installation work began in 2025, and the technology has now been deployed on multiple mid-scale and large-scale liquefaction production lines. Cheniere plans to complete the installation and commissioning of the technology on the remaining liquefaction production lines at the site by the end of 2027.

In this project, BASF provides the Durasorb process technology license, proprietary adsorbent materials, and technical support during the preparation, implementation, and startup phases. This milestone is not the commissioning of new production lines under the Corpus Christi LNG expansion project itself, but rather an upgrade of the feed gas pretreatment process for existing and expanded liquefaction production lines, with the core focus being the adsorption system at the front end of liquefaction.

Durasorb LNG MAX employs a unit adsorption process to remove trace heavy hydrocarbons, BTEX components such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes, as well as water from feed gas, enabling the treated natural gas to meet the requirements of the cryogenic liquefaction process. This technology can be used both for retrofitting existing dehydration systems and for integration into new LNG plants. BASF also uses its proprietary modeling tools to support system design and operating parameter configuration.
