en.Wedoany.com Reported - SP Energy Networks has announced the deployment of TUAL PowerUp Charger electric vehicle fast charging systems at three operational centers in Middlewich, Liverpool, and Cambuslang near Glasgow in the UK, following a successful trial of the technology at Middlewich. The system is designed for high-utilization operational vehicles, combining battery energy storage with high-power DC charging to deliver ultra-fast charging where existing site power capacity is constrained.

The company has partnered with technology firm TUAL to install its PowerUp Charger charging system.

The system first draws power from the available on-site grid capacity and stores it in integrated batteries, then releases it at high-power DC when vehicles are connected. SP Energy Networks' operational requirement is to schedule charging within approximately 30-minute parking windows during staff breaks and resupply to reduce vehicle downtime. TUAL states that the deployed equipment can provide stored driving energy equivalent to approximately 600 miles in the event of an external power supply interruption.

The PowerUp Charger features a rapidly deployable structure that does not require large-scale power capacity upgrades or civil works at the site, and can be relocated as site usage changes. The three sites selected by SP Energy Networks face constraints related to power capacity, lease arrangements, site utilization, or future development, which restrict the construction of traditional fixed high-power charging infrastructure.

The Middlewich site had previously completed a trial of the PowerUp Charger, and SP Energy Networks expanded deployment to three operational centers after the trial concluded. TUAL disclosed that this represents one of the first commercial deployments of the PowerUp Charger in the UK, with the equipment to be used to support the charging needs of grid operational vehicles during round-the-clock emergency and on-site operations.
